Reduce Clicks For Adding Food

It takes to many clicks and feels clunky compared to NutraCheck to add food to the diary. For example I have a saved recipe for a skinny cappuccino which I have measured etc so I know my milk quantity etc. but to add this it too may clicks, for saved/favourite recipes there should be a quick add button that just adds it straight ti the day.

The whole calories business is laboured too - you’ve got AI that uses my data to calculate what I need to deficit my calories for weightloss, but it can’t create/update my goal - it literally told me how to manually add the goal - I had to write stuff down like a medieval peasant. Also the only option in goals to maintain protein targets is a percentage - but the AI gave me calories and grams - I had to fiddle with percentages to get to 180g - very poor. It created exercise programs for me - why not diet/calorie goals.

Could we get a plugin? I’d rather use nutracheck for now than bevels system

Samuel Brown good point - if it just read nutrition, calories etc from other apps it would work - I use Lose It! - but nothing I put in there is reflected in bevel

Samuel Brown yes same! FoodNoms is so much more user friendly and thought out. With minimum amount of clicks, and hooks into Apple Shortcuts etc. Bevel via the food tracker is just too clunky. Starts with scan, find, search, photo options?? Then can’t find often tracked foods/drinks. Via AI is cool but it takes way too long. The AI is taking a minute or so, then the cart takes half a minute to update, so I have to wait until I can press add to food log. Etc etc

Timed it just now: Adding a coffee trough AI took 40 seconds.

Agreed. Especially for foods or water quantity that I consume every day, multiple times(glasses of water), I should be able to create a list of foods I often use. Right now I have to create a single item recipe, then add it to my favorites. That way I quickly add them. OR, have the last entered food of that type come up first when I search, so if last time I chose water it was 12floz, then that shoul come up when I search (default is 1 cup). It's ridiculous that I have to click several times just to add a glass of water. That said, Bevel 3.0 is AMAZING!!!

Adding time of meal and other features of a meal is too cumbersome.

It takes 4-5 steps. There should be a way when first adding food to specify the time. Instead, the app assumes it’s being consumed at the present time. Once you go to “review log”, it still doesn’t show where to change the time. When you click the item in the log, it
still
doesn’t show where to change the time. You have to then click ‘edit’ and then scroll all the way down. Then, you have to do this for each individual item. Overall, the food logging user experience is unacceptably cumbersome.B

Just add to control centre.. no?

Agreed I use Nutracheck too. If Bevel can get some data integration with them or behind the scenes elsewhere, and really nail all the good info with a tidy UI this would be helpful and then we won’t need Nutracheck. ATM the full feed from Nutracheck to Bevel isn’t sufficient as it doesn’t unlock analysis right

Easier adding meals from a catering service
P
Padrino
Currently, to add a catered meal that has a nutrition label printed on the packaging, I have to add it as a custom meal and then find it and select it as a daily log.(To calculate the exact calories and ingredients) I’d like there to be an option to quickly log a daily meal after scanning the nutrition label, without having to go through the whole process of adding it as a custom meal and then searching for it and adding it to my daily intake.
Here is a sample label from a Polish catering service

Hi Padrino you can scan a nutrition label by going to My Foods-->Add-->Create Recipe-->Scan barcode. If this doesn’t quite address your feedback, please share a bit more detail about what you’re looking for, and I’ll be happy to help!

Leah Unfortunately, the meals from the catering service don’t have barcodes; instead, they list the exact macros and calories for each meal printed at label. When I scan a meal via “Create Recipe” > “Import Recipe,” the app generates approximate macros and calories without letting me edit them (but I want to enter exactly what’s on the label for that meal, so the current workflow I’ve found is to use “Create custom food” and scan the label; this way, I can edit the macros if the OCR didn’t work properly and the data is accurately read from the label). The fastest UX solution would be to have an additional “Save & Log” button next to the “Save” button at the end of my current workflow.

I really like the overall concept of the app, but the food logging experience needs significant improvement.
First, the structure feels unnecessarily complicated. Navigating through a timeline instead of clearly separated sections like Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snacks makes logging slower and more frustrating than necessary. A structured, meal-based layout would greatly improve usability.
The home screen widget also needs improvement.
Currently, it does not offer a quick and intuitive way to log food. In comparison, other apps structure their widget clearly by Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snacks, each with a simple plus button. When tapping the plus icon, you are taken directly to the search screen, where recent and saved foods are immediately visible. This makes logging extremely fast and convenient. A similar approach would significantly enhance the experience.
Second, the food database (especially for Germany) appears unreliable.
Some products are incorrectly stored. For example, I drink yfood Cold Brew every morning, but the nutritional values and vitamins listed were completely wrong.
Additionally:
- Many foods cannot be found
- Some verified products contain incorrect nutrition data
- Some foods have no nutritional information at all
- Product names are sometimes confusing or inaccurate
The search function also feels slow and inconsistent.
The biggest issue, however, is entering exact gram amounts.
If I eat 243 grams of something, I should be able to enter 243 g directly. Instead, I have to select “100 g” as the base and then enter 2.43, which is unnecessarily complicated and unintuitive. This makes food logging far more tedious than it needs to be.
It would also be helpful to have practical serving-based options (e.g., slice of cheese, slice of sausage, piece, etc.) where appropriate.
Regarding the AI features:
- The food scanning AI often significantly underestimates calories.
- The “describe your meal” function suggests nutritional values that do not match reality.
- If I provide exact nutritional information for a full recipe, the app should use that data instead of generating unrelated estimates.
Overall, the concept of the app is strong, but the food tracking system — especially for German users — needs major improvement in terms of usability, database accuracy, and efficiency.

Sonja Yes, yes and yes. I started to log my food a week ago and your post sums up my experience perfectly! It’s a great ideas but way too complicated — I just counted and it took me eight taps over three different screens to log a single coffee with milk that I have saved as a recipe.

Sonja I absolutely agree. I was on Lose It! before switching to Bevel; and a part of me misses Lose It! Thankfully, Bevel is great in many other areas, but logging in food is quite the hassle...
I don't understand why the barcodes I scan don't get automatically added to my "custom" food. Whatever barcode I scan should automaticaly be added to my custom food.

i would also add it would be nice for your saved food to save your last inputted measurement. I’m always having to change from 1 cup or serving to 200g or 200ml or whatever. Better standardization or option to standardize common foods in how you prefer to measure them. It would also be nice to auto add a food to every day, such as my morning smoothie and eggs that I eat every day. Automatically add it in and if I don’t eat it that day I can delete it.
